About
Announcing the 9th annual Josephson-Spindler Dinner Gala & Silent Auction!
Join us for a night of fundraising for the Brightside Produce Nonprofit and the Kids Eat Right Campaign where we will be working to raise money for the fight against food insecurity in San Diego and foster scholarships for young future dietitians. Around 500,000 people in San Diego County are food insecure, with almost 165,000 of those being children. Additionally, around 7,000 students at San Diego State University are food insecure. We invite you to join our efforts in fighting food insecurity in our surrounding area. CEU’s will be available for this event! The gala will be held at the San Diego Natural History Museum. Each ticket to the gala comes with a full dinner buffet with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options as well as 2 drink tickets. To purchase your ticket please visit the event page here. This year’s gala has 3 outstanding speakers, the first being Dr. Iana A. Castro, a researcher, educator, and social entrepreneur who launched BrightSide produce in 2017. BrightSide is “committed to increasing access to healthy food options in underserved communities through produce deliveries, while reducing food waste and strengthening the local food system in San Diego County. The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Guadalupe X. Ayala who will be presenting on improving healthy food access for all and where both you can start and where you can play a role within that. Dr. Ayala is a Professor of Public Health at SDSU while also directing the Institute for Behavioral and Community Health, the SDSU HealthLINK Endowment, and the SDSU HealthLINK Center for Transdisciplinary Health Disparities Research. Dr. Ayala’s research focuses on developing new and adapted interventions to reduce Latino health disparities in obesity and diabetes, with a focus on dietary aspects of disease prevention and control. |
Our last speaker is Sam Pantazopoulos, Co-Founder and CEO of Vizer, a social wellness platform for Democratizing Wellness® through increased activity and access to healthy food. Sam will be presenting on her unique perspective on food insecurity and how Vizer works with organizations to combat this issue.
If you are unable to attend this year’s gala, but would still like to donate and help us reach our goal, we will happily take any donations. Please Venmo all donations to @SNO_Paige_Sullivan. Thank you!
We look forward to seeing you at this year’s gala!
